Trust & Safety
RenovationRoute provides technology tools for secure escrow payments and transparent project tracking. We do not verify, vet, background check, or supervise contractors. You are solely responsible for checking licenses, insurance, references, and qualifications before hiring anyone. Every feature we've built comes from real experiences, real concerns, and real lessons learned on both sides of the job.
FAQs
Home improvement projects can get messy. Miscommunication happens. People disappear. We built RenovationRoute because we were tired of seeing good homeowners and honest contractors lose out. This is how we make sure that doesn’t happen here.
What if my money disappears?
All payments on RenovationRoute are powered by Stripe, which operates under U.S. banking compliance regulations. You have two payment options: Escrow (recommended for maximum protection): Funds are held securely in Stripe's escrow account until work is approved and you release payment. Funds are never sent to the contractor without your approval. RenovationRoute has no access to control or withdraw escrowed funds. Quick Pay (available after proven track record): Funds transfer directly to contractor's bank account without approval (1-3 days via card, or 1-5 via ACH). With either option, you can see exactly where funds are at all times. Both are transparent and secure.
What if my contractor flakes out or does bad work?
While we cannot guarantee the quality of work from any contractor, funds will remain in escrow until a resolution is reached. This gives homeowners leverage to resolve disputes. RenovationRoute provides documentation and communication logs but does not supervise, inspect, or verify contractor work quality.
What if a homeowner doesn’t pay me?
For contractors, RenovationRoute eliminates the biggest pain: chasing payments. Before any work begins, escrow confirms that funds are deposited and available. When you complete a milestone, you submit progress photos and request payment. The timestamped photos provide proof of completed work making it hard for homeowners to dispute if the work clearly meets the agreed scope. Once homeowners approve, payouts are automatically released to your bank account in 1-2 days. No awkward conversations, no waiting on checks.
What if a homeowner does not approve the payout?
Homeowners have 7 business days to approve or dispute work after you mark a milestone complete. If they raise a legitimate concern or dispute within that window, funds remain in escrow while the issue is resolved. However, if the homeowner does not respond or approve within 7 business days, you are not stuck waiting forever. After 14 calendar days of non-responsiveness, RenovationRoute will send 2-3 documented notices (email + in-app) stating that funds will be automatically released if no action is taken. If the homeowner still does not respond, funds are released to your account. This protects contractors from indefinite payment holds. Disputes pause this timeline until resolved.
